Claude Monet (1840-1926)

Agapanthus is a plant native to Africa which Monet planted a lot of in his garden at Giverny. They were planted along the banks of his pond, as well as several other types of indigenous and imported vegetation, such as wisteria, irises, and bamboo. Whilst in his large water lily panels there is a stillness that comes from the repeated layers of brush strokes that meld together and form a very abstract surface, this painting of Agapanthus has a real sense of motion, and you can feel the dance that the flowers are doing and the wind that is tickling them.
