Ferdinand Oldewelt: Daffodils and Irises

Ferdinand Oldewelt (1857-1935) was educated from 1871 to 1878 at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, where he studied under the direction of August Allebe and Barend Winjnveld. In 1891 he became headmaster of the School of Applied Arts in Harlem, after which he was appointed director of the Academie van Beeldende in Rotterdam.

He was one of the first painters to paint in what later became the artists' village of Laren. His works include cityscapes, portraits and still lifes, especially of flowers.
