Ernst Anders: Mother's Pride and Joy, 1911

Ernst Anders (1845-1911) was a notable German painter. He began his artistic education as a private student of Andreas Müller and later enrolled at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.  Most of his paintings were genre scenes, but he made his living doing portraits, including many of his fellow artists. His work, deeply rooted in the academic traditions of his time, captured the sentiments and narratives of bourgeois life with meticulous detail and a refined aesthetic.
